Research Interests

My research activity is basically to establish relationships between the processing conditions and the physical properties of various ceramics. This spans engineering applications and the supportive fundamental science. The overarching theme of this work is related to the processing and the characterization of dielectrics, semi-conductors, superconductors and also some structural ceramics. The materials that are currently under investigations are, for instance, TiO2, ZnO (doped or undoped), Al2O3, carbides such as B4C or SiC … Some more complex oxides could be also studied, including ordered type perovskites (BaZn1/3Ta2/3O3, BaMg1/3Ta2/3O3 etc.), niobates (Ba5Nb4O15, BaNb2O6 etc.), manganites (LaMnO3), cobaltites etc. Another important activity is dedicated to develop the Microwave Processing of Materials. How the microwave heating can be successfully used to tailor and improve the properties of materials ? This is one important issue we face. Microwaves are commonly used to synthesis oxides in a very short time, and to sinter different materials (TiO2, ZnO, YBa2Cu3O7 etc. )
Applications : Varistors, Dielectrics (type I and II), Base Metal Electrodes Multilayer Capacitors, High Voltage Capacitors, Resonators, Reaction Bonded materials, Structural Alumina etc.

Teaching Activities

Courses taught : Licence ‘materials science’ : inorganic chemistry. Master degrees in chemistry and physics : solid state physics, ceramic science, physical properties of transition elements, crystallography, granulometry : methods and applications, thermal analysis (TMA, DTA, DTG, DSC), spectrometry (AAS) etc.
